Ultimate Texas Hold'em: Trips Side Bet Strategy and Pre-Flop 4x Raise Rules

By M8BET Editorial · Updated March 2025 · 7 min read

Ultimate Texas Hold'em is a heads-up game against the dealer with three chances to raise. The pre-flop 4x raise decision is where most of the strategy lives. Here is how it works.

How UTH Plays

You post an ante and receive two hole cards plus a five-card community board. You have three opportunities to act: pre-flop, after the flop, and after the river. At each point you can bet (raise) or check, and you must bet at least the ante by the end if you want to stay in the hand.

Pre-Flop 4x Raise Rules

The pre-flop decision is the most powerful: you can raise up to 4x your ante. A simple and well-known strategy is to raise 4x on your strongest starting hands, such as high pairs and strong Ace hands, and check on everything else to see the flop.

  • Ante plus two hole cards and a five-card board
  • Three rounds to raise or check
  • Pre-flop allows up to a 4x raise
  • Raise 4x on premium hands, check the rest

Trips Side Bet

The Trips side bet pays on the strength of your final seven-card hand regardless of the dealer, from a three of a kind upward. Like all side bets, it carries a higher house edge than the main game, so it is best sized modestly.

Playing Well

Learn the 4x pre-flop rule first, then add the flop and river thresholds. The main game rewards discipline far more than the side bet, so keep the Trips bet as a small extra rather than a core part of your plan.
